RAmeter

MODEL RAM - 1

The RAmeter is used for measuring the retained austenite percentage (RA %) in razor blade steel in form of strips and blades. It is calibrated for different strip widths being used by the user.

Principle of operation:

This meter measures the magnetic attractive force on a blade. Austenite is non magnetic, hence higher the austenite percentage, lower is the force of attraction on the blade. Calibration is done using strips of known RA %.

Operating procedure:

Place the strip or blade on the "bridge".

Note the meter reading, ignoring the minus sign, and locate the nearest value in the column for the corresponding blade width in the "conversion chart" fixed in the lid of the box.

Read the RA% in the same row in the first column.

Checking meter calibration:

For checking the calibration of the RAmeter, master blades of known RA% are provided in the box. these are kept in a specially designed magnetically shielded container.

Technical Specifications:

  • Range: 11 to 29 % RA
  • Accuracy: +/- 1% RA
  • Operating temperature range: 0 to 40°C
  • Power: 2 x AAA batteries
